TICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR STARRY NIGHTS FEATURING THE FOUR TOPS ACCOMPANIED BY THE JACKSONVILLE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Jacksonville, Fla. - The City of Jacksonville will welcome the Motown group The Four Tops, accompanied by the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, to Metropolitan Park for Starry Nights on Saturday, May 21. Tickets are on sale now. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and the concert will start at 7:30 p.m. The symphony will begin the concert and will then be joined by The Four Tops.  Another Starry Nights concert will take place on Saturday, June 4 with a new featured artist, to be named soon, accompanying the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.

”For more than a decade, Starry Nights has been one of the city’s most popular events,” said Mayor John Peyton. “It brings the wonderful sounds of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and featured top entertainers outdoors to Metropolitan Park. This year, we are honored to have a performance by the world-renowned Four Tops, guaranteeing an excellent evening along the St. Johns River in downtown Jacksonville.

The Four Tops’ first Motown hit, “Baby I Need Your Loving,” made them stars. Their songs, soulful and bittersweet, were across-the-board successes. “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)” is one of Motown’s longest-running chart toppers and was quickly followed by a longtime favorite, “It’s The Same Old Song.”

They realized extraordinary success in the U.K., and have had hits spanning three decades including “Ain’t No Woman (Like The One I’ve Got)” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There”. In the 1990s, they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Founded in 1949, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra celebrated its 60th anniversary season last year, as well as the tenth season of Music Director and Principal Conductor Fabio Mechetti. Having hosted some of the most renowned artists of the past century, including Isaac Stern, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Marilyn Horne, Luciano Pavarotti, Itzhak Perlman and Mstislav Rostropovich, the Jacksonville Symphony is poised as an American orchestra for the 21st century. The Orchestra’s superior quality and commitment to Florida composers “offered a timely reminder of how much interesting music-making goes on outside what are traditionally regarded as major music centres,” as reported by the “Toronto Star.” The Orchestra has performed twice at Carnegie Hall and has appeared on American Public Media’s “Performance Today.”

This year, those purchasing VIP table seating for Starry Nights will have the opportunity to participate in the Table Decorating Contest at each concert for a chance to win fabulous prizes. The Table Decorating Contest offers attendees the opportunity to be stars at their own tables by bringing tablecloths, candelabras and other decorations.    Attendees can also pre-order meals from Bogetta di Bella Sera and N’ Awlins Fusion for pick up on site at the event.

Ticket prices for Starry Nights per concert, per seat are $50 for VIP table seating and $20 for lawn seating, and applicable service charges will apply. Day-of-show VIP table seating will be $60 and lawn seating will be $25. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.MakeASceneDowntown.com or by calling the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Box Office at (904) 354-5547.

Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged for lawn seating. Picnic baskets with food and beverages (no glass containers or alcoholic beverages) may be brought into the park. In addition, strollers, diaper bags and “chairs in a bag” will also be permitted. All items are subject to search. A variety of food and beverages (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic) will be available for purchase in the park.

The following items are prohibited from being brought into the park: alcohol, glass bottles or containers, bags, backpacks or fanny packs larger than 8 ½” x 11”, still or video cameras of any kind, roller skates or roller blades, bicycles, pets and umbrellas.

Starry Nights is produced by the City of Jacksonville Office of Special Events and is part of the Make A Scene Downtown! series.  Clear Channel Radio’s Greatest Hits Station, Magic 107.3 is a proud sponsor of this event. Visit www.MakeASceneDowntown.com or call (904) 630-3690 for more information.
